WBD man killed in early morning accident at Le Resouvenir

The police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 04:30h this morning on the Le Resouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

The accident involved minibus PTT 7715 driven by 45-year-old Winston Belgrave  of Laing Avenue, Charlestown and another minibus BPP 1340 driven by 37-year-old Jagdeo Singh of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.

The accident resulted in the death of 53-year-old Clive Hercules, a security officer of Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara who was the lone passenger in minibus PTT 7715. According to a Police report, the driver of PTT 7715 said he was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when he was blinded by two bright lights from a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and into his lane, causing him to pull north and both vehicles collided head-on. As a result of the impact, both occupants of PTT 7715 received injuries. However, Winston Belgrave was pinned down in the vehicle.

The Police also indicated that the driver of BPP 1340 and the following occupants received injuries: Caleb Henry, 24 and Raphael Khemraj, 21 both of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara. They were all (except for Winston Belgrave), picked up by public spirited persons and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where Jagdeo Singh and Caleb Henry are admitted in stable condition. Raphael Khemraj was treated and sent away, whilst the driver of PTT 7715 was later taken to Woodlands Hospital and admitted in a semi-conscious condition.

With the assistance of the Guyana Fire Service, Clive Hercules, who was pinned in the front passenger seat of the minibus, was taken out and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem.
