Police are now hunting three suspects who reportedly carried out a daring robbery on a West Bank Demerara (WBD) business as well as its customers, before hijacking one of their cars on Monday evening.
According to Police ‘D’ Commander Leslie James, the incident occurred at around 20:45hrs at a business identified as Simone’s Variety Store in Lust-en-Rust, West Bank Demerara.
INews was informed that the three men, armed with a shotgun among other weapons, entered the store and pounced on the owner- who identified herself as Simone Banwari to this online publication.
The bandits reportedly robbed the woman of a pair of gold earrings she was wearing – valued at approximately $17,000- a quantity of phone cards and $50,000 in cash.
A male customer who was inside the store at the time was also relieved of $17,000 while another told police that the car she was driving- which belonged to her spouse, was hijacked after the perpetrators demanded that she turn over the keys.
The armed men reportedly fled the scene in the white motor vehicle, PPP 8667.
Presently, police are said to be reviewing CCTV footage to identify the individuals.
