Law enforcement officials are on the hunt for a man who shot and killed a Wakenaam businessman on Robb and Alexander streets, Georgetown during a brazen robbery attempt today.
The businessman has been identified by the police as twenty-six-year-old Mahendra Persaud. The incident occurred just after 11:00 hours.
Sources say Persaud was shot once to the chest and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he subsequently died.
Eyewitnesses say Persaud came out of a car and as he was about to enter a store to transact business, he was immediately pounced upon by a gunman who demanded that he hand over his money. In an attempt to put up a fight, Persaud was shot once to his chest.
INews understands that shortly after shooting the businessman, the bandit managed to escape on a CG motorcycle. It is still not clear as to how many persons were involved in the botched robbery and murder.
Persaud usually travels to Georgetown to buy goods for his family’s business.
Many of his family and friends have since taken to social media to express their shock and disgust at the manner in which the young man has lost his life.
The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
Very sad, my sincere sympathy to his family. Not to worry the bandits may get caught soon after they may get pardoned.
