[www.inewsguyana.com] – The upstart team – Half Mile Bulls – could not get over the final hurdle to win the 20th Anniversary of the Victory Valley Royals (VVR) Knockout Basketball Tournament as host VVR delivered a sound lesson in basketball to the Bulls on Saturday evening at the Mackenzie Hard Court in Linden.
VVR blew out the Bulls 73-54 to claim the first prize of $70,000 while defending the name of their tournament.
With an easy win against the Amelia Ward Jets in the semifinal, VVR used their balanced offensive attack as well as stifling perimeter defence to slow down the Bulls who was on a roll during the tournament.
Chris Williams led the team in scoring with 17 points and was subsequently named Most Valuable Player while Marlon Pollydore who suffered a career threatening injury returned to action with 15 points in the game.
Terron Welch who scored a tournament high 40 points to lead the Bulls past number one ranked club in Linden Kashif and Shanghai Kings in their semifinal was the leading scorer of the final with 23 points in the losing effort.
