[www.inewsguyana.com] – At 06:00 hours this morning, voters were already thronging the places of polls along the East Coast of Demerara.

iNews observed “peaceful and quiet” voting and was told by some after casting their ballots, that “the entire process was smooth”.

At a polling station at Enmore, one lady remarked to iNews that “despite the long lines, she prefers to vote early and return home to relax”.

She said after being bombarded with the political propaganda [meetings and advertisements], she is glad that the day is finally here.

The woman further expressed her hope that the days to follow will be peaceful and quiet and that after the results are announced, Guyanese will get on with their lives as per normal.

Meanwhile, speaking with one of the political activist, a short distance away from one of the places of poll, iNews was told that polling commenced promptly at 06:00 hours and that everything has been progressing smoothly and peacefully.

We also sought to query with some who were still at home, whether they will be going out soon to vote, and were told that they were trying to avoid the long lines.

Some electors expressed their preference to go during the midday hours, when the polling stations will be less crowded, so that they will be able to “get in, vote and get out” very quickly.

Polling stations across the country will close at 18:00 hours. To ensure that you get to cast your vote, you must be at the place of poll, before the policeman on guard, steps to the back of the line, signaling that the person in front of him will be the final voter.

  1. Who will determine when it’s 18:00 hrs? Whose clock or whatever they will use to determine it is time for that policeman to close the line by standing at the back? Would he use his watch or would some senior polling officer from that polling place determine the time? Hope that this simple issue sorted out because some may have their time piece still showing a different time from that of the policeman/woman
