While members of faculty and students may feel that the University of Guyana is not ready for the academic year, Vice Chancellor Dr Jacob Opadeyi says it is getting there.
Dr Opadeyi, who took up the post of Vice Chancellor late 2012, confirmed that the University is indeed not 100 percent ready for the new academic year.
He points to the inclement weather as a factor in the readying process along with other minor hiccups along the way.
On Tuesday, President of the University’s Senior Staff Association, Dr Patsy Francis revealed that very little work was done to prepare the infrastructure for the new academic year.
Dr Francis also lamented the treatment of staff which she noted has reached to a level of bullyism from the University’s Senior Admin personnel
In response to these claims, Dr Opadeyi says if indeed this is the case the claimants should take the necessary course of action within the purview of the law. But he adds that he is not aware that staff is being bullied.
The Vice Chancellor notes too that the matter of deductions from staff salaries is also being addressed. [Delicia Fletcher]
