A Venezuelan national and another man were arrested on Sunday following the discovery of a firearm, matching ammunition and a quantity of ganja at Waiamu Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to information received, Police ranks on duty at the location observed two males under a shop acting in a suspicious manner.
One of the men, an 18-year-old Venezuelan national was reportedly seen handing over a multi-coloured bag to an operator.
However, the men were confronted by the ranks who requested to carry out a search on the bag.
During the search in their presence, a .45 calibre Taurus pistol and five matching rounds of ammunition as well as a quantity of cannabis were unearthed.
The men were questioned and subsequently taken into custody as investigations continue.
