[www.inewsguyana.com] – Michael Ashby of Lot 110 Roxanne Burnham Garden, Georgetown was yesterday (Thursday, March 27) fined $30,000 by Magistrate Ann McLennan for stealing Cadbury chocolate.
The 37-year-old vendor pleaded guilty to the charge, particulars of which detailed that on Wednesday, March 26 on Regent and King Street, Georgetown, he stole two Cadbury chocolate valued $1,500 from Shell Service Station.
Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones told the Court that on the day in question around 13:53hrs the convict went into the store and stole the said articles. He was seen by a staff that raised an alarm and was subsequently caught by public spirited citizens. The stolen items were retrieved from the prisoner’s pants pockets.
A default in paying the fine will result in 5 months imprisonment.
