[www.inewsguyana.com] – The United States Embassy in Georgetown is urging the Guyanese people to remain patient and to avoid any actions that could provoke conflict or violence as the nation awaits the results of the 2015 general and regional elections.

In a statement issued, the US Embassy noted that political leaders on all sides should remain proactively engaged with their respective supporters in order to promote calm and reconciliation.

According to the statement, the final results of the Guyana Elections Commission should be accepted by all.

“When the final tally is known, we call on all political parties to accept the ultimate results, to encourage their supporters to do the same, and to resolve any outstanding disputes through the established judicial process,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy congratulated the Guyanese people on the democratic process in yesterday’s elections.

“It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm with which Guyanese voters participated in the electoral process which will ultimately choose their next government.”

Praises were also meted out to GECOM as the US Embassy noted that the Commission did a “credible job in ensuring that this critical Election Day phase of the process was free and fair. It dealt effectively with the challenges posed by high voter turnout and community exuberance in a manner that has ensured the integrity of the vote. We would like to congratulate Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally, Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield, and the Commissioners and staff of the Guyana Elections Commission for their successful organization of these polls.”

The Embassy acknowledged that the task of tallying the results of yesterday’s vote will take some time, but are confident that it will be done accurately and in accordance with Guyanese law.

  1. If the CEO of GEOCOM is acknowledging there were fake Statement Of Polls (SOP), that PNC Commissioner Vincent Alexander has written that that the PPP/C “hasn’t proven their case”, he is tacitly making a point therefore that there were irregularities; that this is now heading to court in an organized fashion, how come the US Embassy is describing the elections as having “ULTIMATE RESULTS” ? … something is not adding up….may be the PPP’s position that Ramsammy’s position of ‘Guyana’s Rigged Elections – is oil now a reason for rigged elections needs rethinking….rather than say it is Ramsammy’s position is personal !

  3. the US the UK the EU the Canadian ambassadors all know who the terrorists are when ut comes to free fair transparent and credible elections in Guyana. So why appeal for calm when the international community could and should easily brand PNC a terrorist organization since its constantly terrorizing the silent majority in Guyana be it on or out of power..Many people dont like the truth but the facts must speak for itself.

  4. The US embassy has to be seen to be impartial when it declared that “When the final tally is known, we call on all political parties to accept the ultimate results, to encourage their supporters to do the same, and to resolve any outstanding disputes through the established judicial process,”
The US embassy knows fully well which side of the political divide has a history of violence and that political party is now bent on creating havoc in the country right now.. The prediction is they will fail and will eventually have to accept the results and eat the humble pie
