[www.inewsguyana.com] – A United States (U.S) Deportee was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for trafficking narcotics.
Robin Wills of Republic Park, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on November 17 at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), he tried to smuggle 2.232 Kilogrammes of cocaine to the United States of America.
Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor Oswald Massiah told the Court that on November 9, a female arrived in Guyana for a funeral and made contact with the defendant.
He offered assistance to the woman to renew her passport and joined the woman and her sister, where he accompanied them to the City and provided a guest house for them. During that time, he requested the help of the woman to take Cream Liqueur to the U.S. It is alleged that Wills offered the woman and her sister to take them to the airport.
The Court heard that two bottles of Cream Liqueur contained the cocaine, which he gave to the woman to transport to the US. According to the Prosecution, Wills stayed outside of the airport, while the two women checked in their luggage.
During a procedural check, the suspected cocaine was found in her suitcase among her clothing. The female was arrested and taken to CANU Headquarters and further investigations were carried out.
After a wanted bulletin was issued for Wills, he turned himself in to the Police.
The matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for February 5.
