The woman who was crushed to death yesterday by a truck on the Haags Bosch road in Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD), has been identified as Mary Rudolph Williams.
According to a source, Williams is in her early 30’s or late 20’s and grew up in Fourth Street, Craig Village, EBD. However, at the time of her demise, she was living in Kaneville, Grove, EBD, with her husband. She had no children.
Rudolph’s mother and sisters who were all living abroad, are expected to arrive in Guyana tomorrow.
At the accident scene yesterday, the body of the woman was covered, while one of her footwear was lying near her and the other under the truck.
Upon her death, eyewitnesses told Inews that the woman was clad in a pair of blue jeans and a white blouse, and had just exited Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
They related that the woman was walking on the left hand side of the road when she was struck by the rear wheel of the truck bearing registration number GPP 1637.
A few persons had told this online publication that the driver of the truck was distracted since he was on his mobile phone at the time of the accident.
However, the driver of the truck, Lloyd Williams, contended that it was Rudolph who was on her phone and not him.
The driver of the truck, Lloyd Williams, explained that he was heading out of the Haags Bosch dumpsite and stopped at a small snackette to collect a spoon. “When I pulled off, the same man who gave me the spoon shout hold! hold! hold! And then is when I see the woman on the road through the mirror,” he noted.
Williams also related that when he came out of the truck, he was told the woman was caught in the back wheel of the truck. She reportedly spun several times and then dropped onto the roadway after which the truck wheels ran over her.
Crime Scene detectives arrived shortly after the incident and the truck driver was taken into custody to assist in the investigations.
