[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two persons are now homeless following the complete destruction of their house by fire earlier this evening [Thursday September 19] at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.
According to Shoba Narine of lot 550 Recthdoorzee, La Parfaite Harmonie, she was heading to bed around 07:00 hours when she noticed that her neighbour’s house was ablaze.
She said she alerted her husband, who immediately grabbed two buckets and began throwing water onto the house, which eventually turned into a bucket brigade.
Narine related that during this time she called the fire service which arrived on the scene after the house was already destroyed.
The occupants of the house who have been identified as Godfrey and Sherry were not at home at the time of the incident and were still not home two hours after the unfortunate ordeal.
The two might face what witnesses referred to as their “worst nightmare” having to return to find nothing where they left a house standing.
Residents say they did not see the duo since earlier in the day. The fire, in addition to destroying the house, partially destroyed nearby homes as well. Narine, who suffered broken windows and the destruction of an AC Unit among others, estimated her losses to be approximately $700,000. The cause of the fire and the estimated damages to the burn premises remains unknown. Investigations are ongoing.
