The gunman who was shot during the crossfire between him, his accomplices and the police at a hotel at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) succumbed to his injuries before he arrived at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
INews was told by a police source that law enforcement officials were tipped-off about a large scale drug transaction at the said hotel and swooped down at the location in an attempt to arrest the culprits and seize the illicit substance(s).
Following the gunfire between gunmen and police ranks, a large quantity of cocaine and a firearm were recovered at the scene of the crime.
The source explained that while attempting to resist arrest from the law enforcement officials, the now dead gunman was fatally wounded, and died before he could receive any medical attention.
The four others who were arrested at the scene of the crime are now in police custody at Eve Leary Head Quarters which is spearheading investigations into the huge drug bust.
Recently, two men were arrested at the said hotel when ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) swooped down on them and nabbed them with a quantity of cocaine in a room.
Police believe that the hotel in question is the transit point for large scale drug transactions and have been monitoring operations at the location for some time now.
