A bandit was shot dead this morning, Monday September 16 in the community of Meten – Meer – Zorg West Coast Demeara and reports indicate that another was injured and is in custody.
iNews understands that the police cornered the gunmen at the Burial Ground and at ‘Tarla Dam’ as they tried to escape. According to information received thus far, the dead gunman posed as a GPL employee and tried to rob a business in the area.
He was shot two times to upper chest. The shooting occurred around 10:00 hrs.
iNews understands that the bandit who was shot opened fire on the police which allowed for his accomplice to escape. The police used the car of Gurdyal Persaud, a taxi driver from Top Class taxi service.
Persaud said he was pulling out of the base heading to a work when the two police officers jumped in his car. He related that they began driving behind the gunmen when they opened, however he was able escape without any injuries. Persaud said it is unclear as to whether the men were contemplating a robbery or whether they already committed one.
iNews was reliably informed that the gunmen invaded Kastev – a small area within Meten – Meer – Zorg and several shots were fired. Residents locked themselves in their houses as the incident unfold. This invasion comes one week after a 27 – year old was gunned down in the community.
