[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – seven – year old Christopher Wharton succumbed to gunshot wounds at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Wednesday night (November 18), while his 5-year-old son is hospitalized, nursing a gunshot wound to his leg after a shooting in Festival City, North Ruimveldt.
Reports reaching iNews indicate that Wharton was sitting on his steps when two men approached him and an argument ensued.
One of the men was pushed from the stairs to the yard where he pulled out a gun and began shooting. After Wharton fell to the yard, the gunman stood over him and continued to shoot.
Neighbours reported hearing the gunshots sometime after 17:00hrs; one woman said she saw the unmasked men making their escape on two bicycles.
The men are known to persons in the area and their names have been given to the police.
Hours after the shooting, family members discovered that the 5-year-old was also shot. iNews understands that the boy, Nashan Wharton, went to play with family after his father had been shot and taken to the hospital.
However, when it was time for him to take a shower, the lad complained that he was shot. Closer inspection revealed that he indeed was shot to his leg.
