Update: Businessman reportedly commits suicide in Providence home

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forty – six – year old Ray Mangal of 2244 Buddy’s Housing Scheme Providence, East Bank Demerara was found dead in his house on Saturday evening, May 30.

iNews understands that Mangal, a gold miner, was found in his bedroom with his gun nearby; he appeared to have shot himself in the mouth and the bullet reportedly exited the back of his head.

Police sources have confirmed that a suicide note was left in the man’s house. Detectives are to examine the writing on the paper to determine if the note was indeed written by the now dead man.

It is not clear what might have led the businessman to commit such an act; however reports indicate that there an ongoing feud among the family. A woman who showed up at the scene and was identified as the dead’s wife was chased out of the premises by an aunt of the dead man.

Following that, the mother and aunt of Mangal were in a heated argument while other family members sought to calm them down.

Mangal has been operating a mining concession in the Mahdia area, which reportedly belongs to his step-father.

A friend of his told iNews that he and Mangal were partying on Friday night and they went home on Saturday morning. The friend said that he slept over at the same house in which the man was found dead.

According to the friend, Mangal did not exhibit any signs of being in distress. The Buddy’s Housing Scheme is a gated community with a security hut in front of Mangal’s house. The security guard who was on duty when iNews arrived on the scene related that he did not hear any gunshots.
