A Sexual Harassment Policy and Regulation is soon to be formulated for staff members of the University of Guyana (UG).
This is According to the institution’s Vice Chancellor Dr Jacob Opadeyi, who was at the time outlining his plan for UG at a press conference at the Turkeyen Campus today (Tuesday September 10).
“I will not tolerate any form of sexual molestation” he told reporters. The Vice Chancellor disclosed that a staff was recently sent home for being involved in such activities and cautioned others against such behavior.
Over the years, there have been complaints made both to the University’s Administration and the police by students alleging rape, and the exchange of sexual favours for grades among other sexual misconduct.
Dr. Opadeyi in the same vein condemned the late submission of grades by lecturers while acknowledging the difficulties it pose for continuing students at the University.
He opined that more must be done to ensure that persons are doing what they ought to do and not what they want to do. [Kurt Campbell]
