The Council of the University of Guyana (UG) has terminated the contracts of Bursar John Seeram and Senior Accountant Hazel Bentick.
This decision was taken following a special audit conducted by an expert team from the University of the West Indies into the finances of UG.
iNews was the first to report on the major corruption ring at the University, which was eventually denied by the UG’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jacob Opadeyi.
iNews had reported that the audit team discovered major sales of examination papers on the campus along with the misuse of funds within the institution.
The audit report, which has since been handed over to the UG Council implicates senior functionaries and staff of the institution. The special audit was requested by the Vice Chancellor earlier this year in order to determine the state of the University’s finances.
