Two remanded on armed robbery charges – following spate of robberies in Corentyne

Two notorious criminals were today remanded to prison after being charged with a spate of armed robberies along the Corentyne Coast in Berbice.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said Cort Batson, 20 years, of New Market Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne; and Kelvin Bates, 19 years, of First Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, were today charged with the following:

1.Β Β Β Β Β  Armed robbery committed on Anil Sooraj of $510,000 on 2016-05-09 at Rose Hall Town Public Road, Corentyne.

2.Β Β Β Β Β  Possession of narcotics (15 grams of cannabis), possession of ten .32 rounds of ammunition and one .32 revolver without licence on 2016-05-09 at R&S Street, Belvedere, Corentyne.

3.Β Β Β Β Β  Cort Batson was also charged with armed robbery committed on Vinesha Sheerkissoon called Β β€˜Vannie’ of a $1,027,000 cash and other articles valued $1,269,000 and unlawful wounding committed on Samuel Fernandes, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, on 2016-04-30.

They appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate court today before Magistrate Merissa Mittleholzer and were remanded to prison.Β
