[www.inewsguyana.com] – After attacking a vendor and his family in a brazen robbery, two of four bandits were caught by public spirited citizens in Vereeniging, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday night (March 04).
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, at about 19:30 hrs, 39 – year – old Randolph Singh was about to enter his residence when he was confronted by four men armed with firearms.
The gun-toting bandits held Singh, his family and a labourer at gunpoint while demanding that they hand over their valuables. During the robbery Singh was assaulted and sustained a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
According to the police, the perpetrators took away $600,000 and a quantity of jewellery and escaped in a waiting vehicle. They were pursued by public spirited persons during which the getaway vehicle crashed into a canal and two of the men were arrested by citizens. The others managed to escape.
Subsequent to their apprehension, the two suspects were handed over to the police who had also responded to the report of a crime in progress. Police say that an unlicensed .32 Taurus revolver with two rounds and two spent shells were recovered at the crime scene.
The suspects have been detained and the car impounded as police continue with its investigations.
