[www.inewsguyana.com] – Although The United Force (TUF) has presented its Lists of Candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to contest the May 11 polls, the Party is yet to reveal its plan for Guyana.

TUF Leader, Marissa Nadir in an interview shortly after the Party presented its list, said the plan would be released soon and that it is all inclusive as it seeks to deal with several pertinent issues in Guyana.

As it relates to the issue of taxes, Nadir said that the Party would be advocating for a reduction in the taxes paid by consumers on a daily basis.

“We are campaign for effective and efficient government services; we are campaigning for better wages and more jobs and most importantly lower taxes. We have a detailed plan which we will be revealing shortly,” Nadir lamented.

The Party first contested national elections in 1964; received 12.4% of the votes and won seven seats, thereby becoming the junior partner in a coalition government with the People’s National Congress (PNC).

In the 1968 elections its share of the votes fell to 7.4% and it was reduced to four seats. The Party did not contest any elections during the 1970s, but returned in 1980, receiving 2.9% of the votes and winning two seats.

TUF retained the two seats in the 1985 elections, before being reduced to a single seat in 1992. It retained its single seat in 1997, 2001 and 2006, but lost it in the 2011 elections.

Out of 300,000 electors casting their ballots on Election Day 2011, only 885 voted for the party.

When asked about the Party’s optimal hopes at the upcoming elections, Nadir said that “our optimal hope is to regain our parliamentary support and be the voice of change, the real voice of change that Guyana needs.”

Nadir’s father, former Government Minister and now People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Member, Manzoor Nadir was the TUF’s long-time leader and MP before becoming a member of the PPP.

He appeared on the PPP’s List of Candidates for the May 11 elections.
