Courts in Kansas City, Mo., can impose a maximum fine of $25 for possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana, after voters embraced a ballot initiative Tuesday. Here, three grams of marijuana is displayed.

A Tucville, Georgetown man, who was allegedly caught with marijuana in his underwear was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Griffith Millington was on Monday taken before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan three days after Police swooped down on his Tucville, Georgetown residence following reports of drug trafficking.

According to the Prosecution’s case, Millington had in his possession 19 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking on August 25.

An unrepresented Millington denied the charge when it was read to him by the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan. He told the court that the Police did not find the drug on his person and claimed that the ranks “picked up” the drugs from the bottom flat of another house, which did not belong to him.

Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore however provided a synopsis of the events on the day in question, which was a contradiction of the Millington’s version of the day’s event. In objection to bail, Prosecutor Moore told the court that the illicit substance was found concealed in a transparent plastic bag, in the defendant’s crotch area.

He further requested that Millington be remanded to prison pending the outcome of trial considering the absence of special reasons advanced by the accused in the circumstances.

The matter will be called again on September 18.
