(Trinidad Guardian) Three men appeared in court yesterday charged with separate murders including a police officer who was on suspension.
PC Kumar Bharath appeared before a Tunapuna magistrate charged with murdering his wife’s nephew.
The 44-year-old officer, who was suspended from duty in March 2015 after being charged for driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest, was charged with shooting Raj Singh, 24, to death and assault. The charges arose from a family dispute at Picton Street Extension, Tunapuna on May 11.
Bharath was remanded to prison and will reappear on June 14.
In the Arima Magistrates Court, a 24 year-old labourer, of Laventille Extension Road, Never Dirty, Morvant appeared charged with the murder of Lopinot mini-mart operator L’leron Alexander, of Back Street, Arouca.
Keron James had a bandage wrapped around his head when he appeared before Magistrate Gillian Scotland. He was reportedly held and beaten after Alexander was shot.
James was also charged with possession of illegal firearm and ammunition. James was remanded in custody and will return to court on June 14.
In the same court, Michael Moore, 29, also known as “Fat K”, appeared charged with murder of his neighbour Michael Garren Hagley, of De Frietas Boulevard and Majorie Palm Phase 1, La Horquetta. Moore is alleged to have shot Hagley on May 6, at La Horquetta.
Moore was remanded in custody and will also return to court on June 14.
