[www.inewsguyana.com] – Leader of the Opposition, David Granger on Wednesday, April 23 met with Commissioner of Police (ag) Seelall Persaud where he congratulated him on his promotion.
In a meeting that was reported to be cordial, the Opposition Leader urged the Top Cop to ensure that nothing is done to jeopardize public Security. Granger told the acting Commissioner that he was cognizant of the needs of the Force; the need for vehicles, boats and aircraft to counter narco-trafficking and gun running.
The Opposition Leader said that he was supportive of a better paid, well-trained and properly equipped Guyana Police Force.
During the visit, Granger discussed with Commissioner Seelall the Albouystown and Agricola Impact Programme. Granger said that while the intent of these programmes were complimentary, he cautioned that executing them without the support of, or consultation with the communities, could have negative consequences and warned against the stigmatizing of certain communities.
Granger was accompanied by Former Commissioner of Police and A Partnership for National Unity Shadow Minister for Public Security Winston Felix.
