[www.inewsguyana.com] – The two teenagers who were busted in South Ruimveldt earlier this year with one M15 rifle, 61 live rounds of matching ammunition and grenades were today fined $100,000 on each charge along with three years imprisonment which will run concurrently.
Eighteen – year – old Kevin George of Haley Street, Wortmanville and Dapper Johnson, 18 of Curtis Street, Albouystown, Georgetown had appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty.
Following a trial, they were found guilty.
The Court heard that on January 22 at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, they had in their possession one M15 rifle and sixty-one rounds of .223 ammunition when neither was the holder of a firearm licence.
According to the facts presented in Court, the two young men were observed by ranks on a motorcycle patrol acting suspiciously on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt.
At the time, George was spotted with a haversack on his back but as the ranks approached him, he quickly handed it over to the other teen.
However, Johnson retaliated by throwing it on the ground where the ranks picked it up and found the items.
The two were then apprehended and taken to the Brickdam Police Station where charges were subsequently laid.
