Three females narrowly escaped death this morning when the car they were travelling in swerved from a speeding truck and ended up in a trench to avoid a head-on collision.
The accident occurred around 03:00hrs today at the Den Amstel Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Michelle Caesar, an occupant of the mangled car, told INews that two trucks and a minibus had tried to “overtake” near their car (PRR 8553) when the incident took place.
She stated that the two trucks were heading in the opposite direction of the car and to avoid a head-on collision, the driver of the vehicle she was in had no choice but to swerve into the direction of the trench where the car hit a lamp post and ended up in a nearby trench.
Caesar explained that the driver of the truck did not stop to render any assistance while she along with her two colleagues, was trapped inside of the badly damaged and partially submerged car.
“It was a man in a four runner vehicle and another person on a motorbike came to help us…I opened my door side and start hollering for help and that is how those people come out and help us”, the woman said.
