A lone thief on Sunday evening broke into a chicken outlet at Number 76 Village, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), and stole a number of items.
However, 12 hours after the the matter was reported, Police were yet to visit the premises.
Businessman Tizal Azees told this publication that the entire episode was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
According to the poultry retailer, when he went to his poultry outlet at Lot Z Number 76 Village, Corentyne, he noticed that the building’s front door was open. The hinges of the door were ripped off.
Azees said that he immediately reviewed the CCTV footage and it revealed that at about 23:00h on Sunday, a suspect entered the building.
He said the man was able to trap the three watchdogs between the gate and fence and then made his way into the compound, where he was seen cutting the hasp and staple from door to the poultry outlet.
The man, who was unmasked, was also seen removing a flat-screen television, “two cases of plastic bags” and eight “Bastard birds” in their cages, each valued at $30,000.
The intruder was also seen pulling the standby generator close to the front door but was unable to escape with it.
According to the CCTV footage, the intruder was in the compound for about 30 minutes.
“I went to the Springlands Police Station and made a report sometime between 05:30h and 06:00h and the CID [Criminal Investigation Department] officer took a statement from me and promised to visit me later in the day,” the businessman told this publication.
He added that he waited all day for the police to arrive but 12 hours later, no one had made an appearance.
