[www.inewsguyana.com] – Eighteen – year-old vendor – Alex Mendonca – of Vlissingen Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison on Thursday (November 23) by Chief Magistrate PriyaSewnarine-Beharryfor the offence of unlawful firearm and ammunition.
Alex Mendonca pleaded not guilty to both charges, which alleged that on Tuesday, January 21 at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had in possession one .32 Taurus pistol, and 26 live rounds of .32 ammunition, without being the holder of a firearm license.
Police Prosecutor, Michael Grantsaid that on that day, police went to the defendant’s home to conduct a search, and made their way in through an open door, where they met with his mother. They asked for the defendant and she told the ranks that Mendonca was in his room.
The prosecutor said the ranks informed the defendant and his mother their reason for being there and a search was conducted in his room, where the alleged gun and ammunition were found.
Attorney – at – Law, George Thomas representing the defendant said his client and his mother reside alone and was awakened by the police in the wee hours of the morning.
The matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman and the case will call again on January 27.
