[www.inewsguyana.com] – Eighteen – year – old Trishant Sukhoo was granted bail in the sum of $2.6M by Magistrate Alex Moore for causing the death of barber 35 – year – old Gopaulram Dass by driving in a dangerous manner and for fleeing the scene of the accident.
The accident occurred on the Vryheid’s Lust Public Road, East Coast Demerara in the wee hours of Sunday, November 10. The teenager of Section ‘B’ Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara made his court appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, November 14.
He was also charged with failing to stop after an accident and to render assistance to the victim. These offences attracted surety of $50,000 each.
Representing the accused was Attorney – at – Law Pamela De Santos, who during her bail application told the Court that her client is not a flight risk and is willing to lodge his passport at a station and present himself to the Police daily.
According to the lawyer, the young man is saddened by the incident and even took it upon himself to go to the Police who did not have to go in search of him after the accident.
Meanwhile, even though the bail was granted, the parents of the young, man through the lawyer, pleaded with the Court, that the amount required for his freedom is too hefty as they cannot afford to pay it.
However, Magistrate Moore pointed out that the bail could be covered by the lodging of a transport and/or other valuables.
