[www.inewsguyana.com] – The male Teacher who allegedly had sex with his 14 – year – old female student on two occasions allegedly gave her contraceptives [birth control pill]. This is according to the student who spoke with iNews on Monday (March 3) in the company of her guardian.
The teenager, who is not a Guyanese citizen said that the episode between her and the teacher started after she proved to be weak in the two subjects which he teaches and after he offered to give her extra lessons.
She admitted to iNews that the sex between her and the teacher was not forced although she explained that she was pressured “a bit.” However, under the Sexual Offences Act, the fact that the child is under the age of 16, whether she agrees to the sex, it becomes rape since the child has not reached the age of consent.
The child explained that the extra classes will have other students apart from her in the sitting but most times it would be her and the teacher alone. She recalled that one day the teacher reached over and touched her legs and she protested and the following day he did the same thing and she allowed him.
She said that they then had oral sex, followed by coitus. She told iNews that no condoms were used during the act and after they were finished the teacher gave her pills to prevent her from becoming pregnant.
According her, the act took place at the school. The 14 – year – old told this news site that after the act, she went downstairs and one of her close friends questioned the “closeness” between her and the teacher.
It was then that the 14 – year – old learned that the teacher made several sexual moves towards her friend; however no sexual act was involved.
The situation came to light after the guardian of the 14 – year – old observed that the student and the teacher were too close, following several visits to the school.
The guardian told iNews that she noticed eye contact between the two and raised the concern with the Head Teacher who promised to investigate.
Earlier today the student was taken to a counseling center where she was tested for HIV. Despite the nature of the offense and the fact that it amounts to statutory rape, the police who have been investigating the matter did not report it to the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security nor was it reported to the Child Care and Protection Agency.
Following the interview with iNews, the guardian and the child were referred to the Child Care and Protection Agency and iNews has been able to confirm that the department has launched an immediate investigation.
