MUMBAI, India (CMC) — West Indies seamer Jerome Taylor has been named to replace Sri Lankan speedster Lasith Malinga for the remainder of the Mumbai Indians’ Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign.
The franchise said yesterday that Malinga had failed to recover from a knee injury and would take no part in the tournament.
“Mumbai Indians have called up West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor to replace the injured Sri Lankan paceman Lasith Malinga for the remainder of the VIVO IPL 2016,” the franchise said.
The 31-year-old Taylor has taken 24 wickets in 20 Twenty20 Internationals and 74 wickets in 61 T20s overall.
He was a member of the successful West Indies side which captured the T20 World Cup in Kolkata earlier this month, but played only the opening game against England before being overlooked.
For the Jamaican, it will be his third taste of the IPL after having in the past played for Kings XI Punjab and the now defunct Pune Warriors.
Mumbai Indians are already represented by Taylor’s West Indies teammate Kieron Pollard. Lendl Simmons also plays for Mumbai, but has been ruled out of the season with injury.
The reigning IPL champions currently lie fifth on six points.
