The taxi driver who struck down Linden pensioner, Henrietta Cadogon on Monday, killing her in the process, was granted bail on Wednesday when he made an appearance at the Linden Magistrates Court.
The defendant, 35 year old Wendell Smith of M12 One Mile, Wismar, Linden was granted bail in the sum of $800,000 by magistrate Clive Nurse. He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Gordon Gilhuys.
The charge against the father of 2 read that on Monday January 18, 2016, he drove hire car HC5603 along the One Mile public road, Wismar, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Cadogon. He is scheduled to return to court on February 10.
Meanwhile, a post mortem examination conducted on the body of Cadogon, 74 on Wednesday revealed that she died of multiple injuries. Cadogon of 572 Canvas City, Wismar was struck down while attempting to cross a pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of Four Corner One Mile, Linden.
At the time of the accident, Smith was reportedly driving at a fast rate. He later surrendered to police.
Cadogon was admitted to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) where she subsequently died later on Monday while receiving medical treatment.
