A taxi driver was today placed on $20,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman charged with assault. 36 year old Keal Douglas of Kitty Georgetown pleaded not guilty with an explanation to the offence and told the court that on June 22 at Kitty Georgetown, the Virtual Complainant [VC] assaulted his wife.
Douglas said he tried to intervene when he noticed that the VC was armed with a knife and a cutlass. He said he then hit the VC to get the weapons out of her hand. Based on his explanation, the Magistrate entered a not guilty plea for him. Police prosecutor Renetta Bentham did not object to bail and Douglas is to make his next court appearance on July 03.
