[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 51 – year-old Taxi Driver appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with the offense of Simple Larceny.

It is alleged that on August 12, 2015 at Garnett Street, Georgetown, Afzal Khan of Lot 145 Bell West, Canal Number 2, stole $297,000 cash; the property of Premoroop Prashad.

The father of four pleaded not guilty to the offense. The Prosecution revealed that the virtual complainant had left his car parked on the road side and that CCTV cameras picked up the image of the accused entering his car and stealing the alleged sum of money.

The Prosecution objected to bail, pointing out that Khan is being investigated by the police for similar crimes. However, the Attorney for the accused explained that his client has so far repaid almost half of the stolen money, and is completely ready to repay the remainder of cash.

He was granted $150,000 bail and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on November 03, 2015.

  1. In thd first place he should not have taken what does not belong to him. Once I left my purse with with a sum of money in a sheriff taxi in Guyana only God knows what was on my mind that day. I was not even sure where I had left it I was frantic. Suddenly I heard the beeping of a car horn and there was the sheriff driver with my purse.
He found my purse in his car and brought it to my home. God bless that driver for his honesty and integrity. No money was taken from my purse. The cash was exactly as I left it.
