Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum this morning told INews that the man who allegedly chopped the 10-month-old baby last Saturday is likely to make his first court appearance today.
INews understands that the 10-month-old baby who was chopped in the head, allegedly by his grandfather, is listed as critical at the Georgetown Public Hospital as doctors battle to save his life.
The incident occurred last Saturday evening after an argument ensued between the child’s mother and the suspect.
It was alleged the argument ensued after the child was left unattended while the mother was attending to some chores in the backyard. During the incident, the man reportedly picked up a cutlass as the woman ran to rescue her child. However, the brutal attack was allegedly carried out by the man.
During the attack, the mother received a chop to her right hand while the baby was chopped to his head. Both the baby and his mother were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, but were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The mother’s condition has been listed as stable.
