Wayne Griffith of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was on Monday sentenced to five years in prison by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman after a lengthy trail concluded and he was found guilty of the robbery carried out on the Ramada Princess Hotel casino in April 29 of 2016.

On the day in question at 3:45h, Police detailed, that gunmen stormed the entity and held up the security guard on duty at the casino and took away his shotgun and ammunition.

The gunmen then ordered everyone to lie on the ground and took the security guard to the cashier cage where they held up the cashier and took away close to $9M from the casino.

During the robbery, the bandits discharged rounds indiscriminately resulting in four employees Eon Garraway, James Gregory, Orlando Knights and Udairan Sookraj receiving injuries.

Griffith was reportedly caught after he was cornered in a maintenance room by police who responded promptly to the scene.

Meanwhile his alleged accomplice Andre Blackman was found not guilty.

A prima facie case was made out against the two, who proclaimed their innocence.

A third suspect, Junior Stewart, was acquitted in November after the court found that the there was not enough evidence to tie him to the crime.

After the court found Griffith guilty, he refused to answer any questions asked by the Magistrate and told her ” I have nothing more to say in this court, hurry up and give me a sentence let me go downstairs”.
