The lone suspect who was in police custody for the murder of 31-year-old Yogeshwar Shivcharran, an auto mechanic from Belle West, West Bank Demerara (WBD), has escaped from the lock-ups.
INews was reliably informed that the suspect who is said to be in his early 20s broke out of the police station cell today.
It is alleged that there were only two ranks on duty at the time the man escaped.
“The police are at the front of the building and he was being held at the back. Now there is a hole at the southern side in the cell and there is a hole at the bottom so he used one to getaway. The police office is at the front so they won’t have known what was happening,” the source stated.
INews was told that ranks attached to the La Grange Police Station where the suspect was being held are presently on the road searching for the escapee.
The family of Shivcharran are hopeful that the alleged killer will be caught soon and justice be served.
Meanwhile, a relative of the now dead man told this online publication that the Post Mortem Examination (PME) was conducted today and it was revealed that Shivcharran died from blunt trauma to his head.
The man had succumbed to his injuries six days after allegedly being beaten by a group of drunken neighbours.
After an investigation was launched into the death of Shivcharran, the male suspect had been taken into Police custody. There were also reports that three women connected to several male suspects were also questioned, but were released on Monday.
