One man is now in custody and has since confessed to the murder of 30-year-old Godrell Joseph of Kamarang River, Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region Seven) during a drinking spree last Friday last.
This is according to “F” Division (Interior locations) Commander Kevin Adonis, who confirmed that the suspect told investigators there had been an old grievance between him and the now deceased.
Joseph had allegedly cut the suspect across his face some time back, and as the two men were out on Friday, the suspect, who was under the influence, sought to exact vengeance.
Joseph was seen with his friends at a bar at the Kamarang Water Front area on Thursday last around 20:00h. The group of men were said to have been imbibing alcohol for a lengthy period.
However, Joseph’s body was later found lying in a pool of blood on Friday. Upon first glance, there were a wound to the right side of Joseph’s neck.
Two men who were identified as friends of Joseph, and who were reportedly in his company on Thursday night, were arrested for questioning in relation to the murder.
A Police source told Inews that a post mortem has already been conducted on Joseph’s body, and it has been determined that the cause of his death was an incised wound to his neck.
Despite the man confessing to the crime, investigations into the matter continue.
The suspect who is presently in Police custody is expected to be arraigned for Joseph’s murder in this new week.
