Sugar workers attached to the Rose Hall Estate in Berbice, who have been on strike for the past few days, are expected to resume their duties tomorrow following a meeting this morning involving a team from the Rose Hall Estate and Central Management from the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc. (GuySuCo), who met with a few Cane Harvesters and workers’ representatives along with the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU) Field Secretary.
A release from the sugar corporation this afternoon stated that the meeting this morning was arranged so as to resolve the situation which occurred on March 17, 2016 on the estate premises where approximately 735 Cane Harvesters struck, seeking an explanation as to the reason for them not being offered work on March 14 and 15, 2016.
According to GuySuCo, the meeting was deemed to be ‘very productive’ where issues were resolved in an amicable manner.
INews understands that a commitment was also decided upon on “the way forward”.
