‘Strip club’ raid: 27 foreign nationals, business owner released

The 27 female foreign nationals who were detained on Friday last following a raid conducted on an East Bank Demerara “strip club” have been released from police custody on their own recognizance.

Additionally, the owner of the business has also been released on $75,000 station bail.

This publication was reliably informed that the matter has since been transferred to the Major Crimes Unit for further investigations.

INews had reported, based on police reports, that a business known as “Biker Bar” located at lot 22 Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was housing an unlicenced strip club.

As such, on the day in question, Police from ‘A’ Division and Headquarters responded and conducted a search of the premises between 21:50-23:55h.

According to the Police PRO, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, 27 female foreign nationals- 25 Venezuelans and 2 Dominicans- who were found therein were apprehended, as well as the owner of the business who resides at Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt.

It was outlined that, a case of liquor was also seized and lodged as there are no licences to operate any business whatsoever on the premises.

Investigations are ongoing.
