[www.inewsguyana.com] – The development of the sport of hockey hinges firmly on partnerships. Whether it is on the field as a team or in the boardroom where decisions are made regarding which path the sport takes, partnerships will move it forward.
This is according to Guyana Hockey Board Public Relations Officer, Devin Munroe.
This partnership, Munroe noted is one between the government, sponsors and the board and it needs to happen urgently.
He explained that the sport has thriving talent as was shown during the recent Pan American Hockey Federation’s Indoor Championship, where Guyana entered fifth and ended third.
The problem comes, according to Munroe when the teams return from highs and the momentum is lost, through lack of competition and even international exposure.
He said this must be addressed and the Board is looking for sponsors and the government to fill this void. Monroe explained that there is only so much the Board can do without sponsorship.
