A St Lawrence, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) businessman was on Tuesday attacked and robbed by two bandits in the vicinity of the Bourda Market around 9:00h on Tuesday.
Richard ‘Roy’ Boodhoo, 57 years old, told INews earlier today that he was just about to wrap up his business transactions for the day when the men approached him, one holding a knife infront of him, demanding that he hand over cash and other valuables.
The businessman explained that the men pushed their hands in his pockets and took away an undisclosed amount of cash and his cellphone. They then escaped on a motorcycle.
Boodhoo, a large-scale farmer and wholesale supplier of fruits also told INews that he suspected that the men may have been tracking his movements for some two weeks now.
In addition to some cuts on his hands he received as a result of resisting the bandits, the incident has left Boodhoo traumatised. He expressed hope that the authorities would provide more protection for businesspersons plying their trade, especially in the market areas around the city.
A report was made to the City Constabulary and an investigation has been launched to apprehend the suspects.
