[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 38 – year – old Construction Worker was today sentenced to seven days imprisonment for assaulting the mother of his children.
Nigel Reid of North Sophia, Georgetown, pleaded guilty with an explanation to the charge which stated that on Monday, November 17 at North Sophia, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Simone Craig.
Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones said that on the day in question at around 22:00 hrs, Reid went home in a drunken state and subsequently an argument ensued between the couple.
The victim was on her bed when he held her by the neck and cuffed her to the face and other parts of her body.
The Court also heard that Reid threatened kill the VC and her three children. According to the Prosecutor, this is a regular occurrence with Reid whenever he consumes alcohol.
Craig related to the Court that she is a Security Guard, while the accused does not have a stable job.
She expressed her frustration and told the court that she fed up of the recurring problem.
The unrepresented man was sentenced and bonded to keep the peace for 12 months. A default of the bond will result in three months imprisonment.
