Police are investigating the murder of Roy Beckles, 45, a labourer of ‘B’ Field Squatting Area, Sophia, East Coast Demerara which occurred around 18:30hrs on Monday at the said address, allegedly by his 42-year-old neighbour (Trasha Johnson).
Based on information received, the now dead man had been hired by his neighbour, Johnson to do some work. However, an argument ensued between the two because Johnson reportedly failed to pay Beckles the amount he had promised.
Their argument reportedly escalated for some time to the point where both men armed themselves with cutlasses and started to trade blows.
Johnson reportedly dodged his blows and managed to knock the cutlass out of Beckles’ hand.
Reports are that Beckles began to run in fear of his life. However, the suspect reportedly chased and caught up with him some distance away and stabbed him once to the right shoulder.
Johnson fled the scene and is said to still be in hiding.
Meanwhile, Beckles’ wife – who allegedly witnessed the incident- ran to his assistance along with other family members. They rushed the semi-conscious man to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
