Phillip Sealey of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry charged with the offence of break and enter.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge. It is alleged that on August 28 at Soesdyke, he broke and entered the dwelling place of Kleon Thom-Fernandes and stole several articles totaling $370,000 property of the said complainant. The court heard that the complainant secured his home and went to bed and on the following day, he noticed the items missing after which he made a report to the police station.
According to the prosecutor, the accused was arrested for another offence but confessed to the break and enter. In light of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the fact that they are other charges of similar nature to be laid against the accused, the prosecutor objected to bail.
His request was granted by the Magistrate and the accused was remanded to prison. The matter will call again on September 16 at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. [Royan Abrams]
