The Ministry of Social Protection says that it has wrapped up its national gift distribution exercise with the phase being rolled out at the Mahaica Children’s Home, East Coast Demerara.
The exercise was executed over a three-week period and saw children from various administrative regions benefiting from toys and other goodies as the Ministry spread cheer and goodwill to the lesser fortunate.
Subject Minister Amna Ally said “children are close to my heart and I know throughout the year you (the children) would have been given good care by the care givers at the home”.
During her visit to the Mahaica’s Children Home Ally interacted with the young women and children at the institution. She also took the opportunity to thank the care givers for their commitment and their service throughout 2017.
The Assistant Administrator (ag), Ms. Patricia December, thanked the Ministry for their annual gift distribution exercise which ensures Christmas in the children’s home is not far from Christmas in any other home. Minister Ally subsequently joined the children in the singing of Christmas carols after which gifts were distributed to all present.
Other Communities that benefited from the three-week exercise include Paramakatoi, Leguan, Mabaruma, Kwakwani, Lusignan and Buxton, just to name a few.
Tomorrow, Min. Keith Scott, Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, will be distributing the final set of gifts to the Sophia Children’s Home.
