Government has reiterated its support to small business development through sound macroeconomic policies. However, the onus is on entrepreneurs to do their part to make it a success.
This is according to Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh at the 10th AGM of the Small Business Development Finance Trust Inc, which was held yesterday, June 24.
Dr. Singh told the board and clients of the trust that often times the reality is that small businesses around the world start flounder and fail and this is why perseverance is important.
He said although the idea may be a good one, hard work is also necessary.
Speaking on the importance of small businesses and entrepreneurs; the Finance Minister noted that without these two groups, Guyana could not have seen uninterrupted growth for the past seven years.
Because of this, Dr Singh added that government will continue to ensure the requisite institutions for the growth and support of these entities are implemented.
He noted that apart from institutional reform, government has also put in place legislation that will see the establishment of the Credit Bureau that would make life easier for entrepreneurs. [Delicia Fletcher]
