[www.inewsguyana.com] – Slingerz Football Club put on a show on Sunday evening (April 05) to defeat football giants Alpha United 2-0 in the final of the 25th edition of the Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament at the National Stadium, Providence.
Both teams created chances in the first half but failed to convert as they kept trying to attack; however, the first half of the match ended in a stalemate with the score at nil all.
The second half was much more thrilling as Slingerz kept up the pressure and were constantly finding their way into the defence of Alpha United who seemed out of sync as a unit.
Devon Millington would draw first blood for Slingerz in the 56th minute before striking again in the 90th (+4) minute to win the game. Meanwhile in the third place playoff, Pele FC defeated Riddim Squad 2-1.
Konata Manning scored in the 18th and 88th minutes for Pele while Beshawn Sandiford scored in the 42nd minute for Riddim Squad. The presentation of prizes will take place at a later date to be announced by the organizers.
