[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 46 – year – old Steel Pan player of Lot 123 South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara appeared before city Magistrate Annette Singh charged with damage to property and simple larceny.
Ovin Chester pleaded guilty with an explanation to the charge which stated that on May 19 at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged one car door glass valued $17,400, property of Ramchand Mangru.
He also pleaded guilty to the offense of simple larceny, particulars of which stated that on the same day at Fabric World Store, located on Regent and Light Street, Georgetown, he stole two jerseys and four hats together valued $1,500, property of Rashad Baksh.
As it relates to the damage to property charge, Chester explained that someone was about to punch him when he dodged and the person ended up hitting the glass window instead. Based on his explanation, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
For the simple larceny charge, the Court heard that on the day in question around 14:25 hrs at Fabric World store, Chester was caught red handed by the store’s manager stealing the items.
He was sentenced to six months imprisonment for the simple larceny and was placed on self bail for the other offense. He is scheduled to reappear in Court on June 11 for trial.
