[www.inewsguyana.com] – A single mother of two was given a brand new home by Habitat for Humanity (HFU) as part of the organization’s 20th anniversary celebration.
Fluencity Holder received a three-bedroom home from the non-governmental organization. The venture became a reality through a collaborative effort between Habitat for Humanity El Salvador and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). A media release from the NGO stated that the GDF provided the labour force and sand that were needed to complete the home, where HFU El Salvador donated approximately US$22,000.
The released added that, “HFHGY is pleased to have partnered with the GDF and Habitat El Salvador whose financial contribution & continued collaboration helped make possible this home which symbolizes a new beginning and renewed hope for Fulencity & her children.”
Holder resided at the GDF base camp Ayangana and is employed as a cook. The mother lost custody of her daughter after she was unable to provide her with a home, while her son who is differently- able resided at the Convalescent Home at D’Urban Backlands, and was considered too old to continue residing there as he was approaching his 9th birthday.
The GDF made efforts to facilitate Holder in receiving a house lot then approached Habitat Guyana to partner with them for the completion of the house.
